Are you a foreigner and planning to live in the Netherlands? You’re not the only one. Especially Amsterdam is welcoming more and more expats. In the last four years, the amount of (only) Europeans living in the capital increased from 41.954 (6,5 percent of the Amsterdam inhabitants) to 59.666 (8,85 percent of the inhabitants). Our country is booming!
When foreigners start working here, they need a decent place to live; maybe a nice apartment along the riverside, or an accommodation close to a train station. But getting your own place in the Netherlands can be complicated, caused by different regulations and routines. At de Kredieter, financial advisor Frans Saas is there to help you. After his law study he worked at a bank for a few years and then started as a financial advisor at de Kredieter. His area of expertise is helping expats with finding the right funding for their dream property in the Netherlands.
‘’It’s important to have someone in the company who is specialized in helping expats’’, Frans says. ‘’We are located in the World Trade Center (Amsterdam-South). Because of our location, we have had a lot of international clients. Building on this experience and network, helping expats has become one of our core businesses.’’
New label
De Kredieter established a new label, DK Mortgage Consultants, with the intention of focusing more on this target group. ‘’With DK Mortgage Consultants, we’re paying more attention to expats. Finding the right funding for foreigners takes some time, so they need that extra help.’’
Frans’ advise for expats planning to live in Amsterdam? ‘’First take a look at your financial situation. What is your budget? At our office, we can provide you with this information, without any obligations. You will find out if there are possibilities for funding, and if so, what funding will look like.’’
‘’Then, when you’re sure about your budget, you decide where you want to live. Which area do you prefer? In what kind of place do you want to live?’’
As an expat, you might look for your dream apartment in big cities like Amsterdam or The Hague. When you are one of the lucky ones and have signed the purchase-agreement, Frans will help you with the whole process of finding the right mortgage. ‘’We are in good contact with all the Dutch lenders. Our guiding role is important, because the banks needs to be informed well about the financial capacities of expats. Especially when you’re abroad, it’s difficult to do that yourself.’’
Current big projects
Frans will be in London soon to visit EMA’s head office, the European Medicines Agency. Due to Brexit this institute will soon be moving to Amsterdam. Frans and his colleagues are helping the employees of the EMA to obtain financing in order to find housing in the Netherlands. A big project.
‘’At EMA’s head office, we will provide all the information the employees need before taking out a mortgage. We are there to accompany them while they’re taking a big step: finding a place to live in and around Amsterdam, and other cities.’’
